Year 13 Titration Day

35 Year 13 Chemistry students carried out an NCEA assessment focusing on Quantitative Analysis of a commercial product.

They used a method called titration which is a widely used technique to measure how much of one substance is in another by using a chemical reaction.

In this investigation the Kerikeri High School students explored how the concentration of Vitamin C changes in various brands and flavours of orange juice when the juice is heated to different temperatures and held for the same length of time or heated to the same temperature and held for different lengths of time.

Titration is very demanding and the students spent at least six hours completing the assessment. While they worked together during the practical experiments, each student completed their own analysis.
